This was a two-year NIH planning grant (R34) focusing on intellectually/developmentally disabled (IDD) persons in preparation for a larger randomized trial. The overall purposes of this grant was to (1) develop the theoretical model, intervention, and study methodology, and (2) conduct a pilot study. The pilot study design was a pre-post intervention group-only design with 12 group homes (2-3 IDD residents and 2 caregivers per home). Upon completion of the planning grant, a full protocol and manual of operations has been developed for the clinical trial (U01 cooperative agreement) grant application.
