Tonita Flowers is the Community Engagement Specialist of the TakeCare Durham project, working with the PIRE–Louisville Center to support the development of community-driven wellness and resource initiatives across Durham County (NC). A Durham native with more than sixteen years of experience in family and community engagement, she has served as a parent and community liaison, an advocate for families with children with disabilities, and a long‑time supporter and advocate of immigrant and refugee communities. She previously served as the TakeCare Durham Program Coordinator.
Tonita holds a bachelor’s degree in English and Hispanic Studies from Barton College and is bilingual, with a certificate in Spanish Interpretation and Translation. Her background includes eight years as a Spanish Interpreter and Community School Coordinator for Durham Public Schools, as well as international teaching experience in Mexico and South Korea.
Passionate about equity, inclusion, and access to resources, Tonita brings her expertise to the TakeCare Durham Pilot Program, helping build a safe, healthy, and supportive network for all residents. She has been with PIRE-Louisville Center since December 2023.
