Melanie Mayfield earned her Ph.D. in Public Health Sciences from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte after completing her M.S. in Criminal Justice from North Carolina Central University. Her work spans public health, justice, and the systems and policies that connect them. Before joining PIRE, she contributed to projects focused on healthy food access, violence prevention, health and criminal legal system policies, community safety, and issues impacting justice-involved populations. Currently, she serves as the Program Coordinator for Evaluation and Implementation for TakeCare Durham at PIRE Louisville. Her work focuses on translating research into practice and evidence-based solutions that improve health and well-being, particularly for communities impacted by social and structural inequities.
